Nobhill
A Tastefully Elegant San Francisco Dining Experience
In Las Vegas at The MGM Grand Hotel

The Dining Detectives love Las Vegas with its excitement, glamour, beautiful hotels and most importantly fabulous fine dining. It is truly a playground for adults and we always visit a few times a year to “check out” the newest hotels and the experience the great chefs and fine dining that is now readily available. On this recent visit we stayed at the ultra luxurious Bellagio Hotel in a fantastic One Bedroom Suite. The accommodations were beautiful and extremely comfortable. Room service is always a treat and be sure to try the Eggs Bellagio for breakfast, which was absolutely perfect. Fine dining and great accommodations are flourishing in Las Vegas.

After a few days, we missed San Francisco and needed to feel at home and experience some great Bay Area Cuisine. We headed over to Nobhill which is a welcome recent addition to The MGM Grand Hotel and an excellent representation of what is best in San Francisco atmosphere and cuisine. As you enter, you feel the Nobhill sophistication and classic charm. A beautiful Mahogany Bar graces one side of the room with stylish and very private modular leather seating located parallel. This area then flows into a spacious dining room with handsome minimalist décor accented by fabulous modern lamps which are throughout the restaurant. The primary color scheme is light neutrals contrasted with rich dark wood.

Nobhill features some of the best menu items from The Bay Area. Jay Wetzel the Executive Chef brings a wealth of experience from his 5 years at Aqua, one of San Francisco’s best restaurants. He knows that by flying in fresh vegetables, fresh fish and prime meats daily that he can attain his best results. Over 80 percent of the products come from growers and producers in The Bay Area, many for the first time in Las Vegas.

Hot freshly baked sourdough and olive bread from Nobhill’s own oven accompanied by anchovy butter and Sparkling Mineral water were crisply delivered to our table. The menu had everything one could ask for in a fine San Francisco restaurant and more. Here are a few of the things we tried and can highly recommend.

There were many creative Appetizers and we decided to try one of our favorites and were totally pleased. The Roasted Hudson Valley Foie Gras with Griddled Cranberry Bread came with citrus compote. The caramelized onion sauce and the toasted Brioche helped make this the one of the best of the best Appetizers ever.
The Entrees were superlative. Sometimes we feel that prices don’t match the quality but here the price was high but the Cuisine was well worth it. Michael’s Lobster Pot Pie may well be the best entrée of the year to date. We love lobster and this was outrageously delicious. A Two Pound Lobster was cooked in a pot with vegetables and served on the crust it was baked in. We loved the medallions of lobster and the sauce was delicious. Tableside service made this a Las Vegas Style Spectacle.

The Roast Filet of Beef Rossini with seared Foie Gras and mushroom potato cake and red wine reduction was so tender you would have not believed that it was beef. The Foie Gras melted in your mouth. I can’t remember a better Filet Mignon period.
For Dessert we had an outstanding array, a superior sampler plate. Every dessert was terrific but our favorite was definitely the Scharffenberger Chocolate Pudding Cake with Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream. It was mouth watering and scrumptious. Espresso was the perfect compliment

The wine list features wines from around the world and of course boasts a great selection from Napa and Sonoma. We enjoyed a flight of whites that paired perfectly with the appetizers and Lobster Pot Pie and a flight of reds that paired perfectly with the Beef Rossini. There were wines for every budget and several for the “High Rollers.”

Nobhill definitely offers a sophistication and classic San Francisco atmosphere. Chic minimalism at its finest. The Cuisine was fantastic. The service was absolutely stellar! The staff was exceptionally well trained and truly enjoyed accommodating and satisfying their guests. San Francisco move over….. Las Vegas now has some of The Best of The Best Bay Area Dining at The MGM Grand Hotel with Nobhill.
